The veterinarians at Bell County Animal Clinic are proud to utilize the latest services and techniques offered in animal health. There are three major advantages of laser surgery when compared to traditional stainless steel surgical scalpels:
- decreased pain
- reduced bleeding and blood loss
- reduced risk of infection
Decreased pain is achieved by the nerve endings being sealed when the laser cuts through the tissue. There is reduced bleeding due to the cauterization of blood vessels that occurs when lasers are used. The risk of infection is significantly lower because the high heat of the laser kills any bacteria present.
The most common surgeries that utilize laser are soft tissue surgeries, such as spay and neuter. However, there are numerous other surgeries that can also be successfully performed with laser, and our veterinarians can discuss with you if laser surgery is the best approach for your pet’s condition.
